Album Reviews
While this outfit still has to have one of the dumbest band names ever (naming your band after chick lit? can you be any more gay?), they did finally manage to record a decent album with “With Roots Above And Branches Below”. Their first two releases were absolute crap but vocalist Mike Hranica is right on the money when he’s screaming that ‘our message will grow’.
They’re not exactly breaking any new ground here. It sounds a little too much like Bleeding Through with clean emo choruses and there still are way too many perfunctory breakdowns for that to happen. On the other hand, the electronic bleeps they insert in their songs work well. So it’s good to see these guys are actually making progress rather than letting ridicule bring them down. Even though they did deserve some of it. Well, let’s be honest… a lot of it.
Anyway, with “With Roots Above And Branches Below” The Devil Wears Prada finally prove they’ve got more to contribute to the metalcore scene than playing the role of village idiot.
