Album Reviews
Just when you had finally replaced all the furniture you broke while moshing your ass off to 2014’s “Calloused”, Gideon are back with a new album that is somehow even heavier.
Take opening track “Champions” for example. The Alabama-based band lures you and then bring out the über-brutal about 20 seconds in. They then proceed by throwing some Hatebreed flavor your way along with a catchy chorus. And just when you think you’re safe, they buckle down on one bigass breakdown that stomps all over you like it was Kong on Skull Island.
They pretty much stick to the formula for the remaining ten songs, helped out by Knock Loose’s Bryan Garris and Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta along the way. It’s a tried and true formula that they seem to have perfected on their fourth album. It might not be what I personally go nuts over, but there is no denying that tracks like “Cursed”, “Freedom” and “Walk Alone” work.
