Victory seems to have become something of a shelter for nu metal bands that don’t have anywhere left to go like Otep and Ill Nino. It’s also home to newer bands that are just utter crap like Emmure and Neurotic November to name just a few. There is still the occasional good band to be found on the label, they’re just very hard to spot.

Islander unfortunately does not belong to that latter category as we quickly find out while listening to “Violence & Destruction”. This South Carolina-based band does its utmost best to sound like P.O.D. (whose Sonny Sandoval gets a guest spot on “Criminals”) while vocalist Mikey Carjaval tries his hardest to sound like Chino Moreno. Hint: he fails. They do however manage to sound like a P.O.D. clone. I’ll leave it to you to make up your mind whether that is a good thing or not.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
