Album Reviews
On ‘All You Embrace’ Pennsylvania’s One Step Closer expand the scope of their sound significantly. Mixing up their take on melodic hardcore with early 00’s emo/post-hardcore and even some grunge-y, alt-rocking influences, there is something for everyone here. It sounds like a lot of musical styles to juggle, yet One Step Closer not only make it seem easy, they also managed to create a cohesive album that has a nice ebb and flow happening throughout the eleven songs that make up the album.
Dealing with change, love, loss and coping with things that are beyond your control, they cover a lot of ground lyrically as well. Throw in some more surprising elements (for a hardcore album at least) like the piano in ‘Blur My Memory’ or the horn section in ‘Giant’s Despair’ and you have yourself an album that doesn’t like to be pigeonholed. Fans of Koyo, Movements, Basement will want to play this one loud.
