Formed by Jackson Reid Briggs (Jackson Reid Briggs & The Heaters) and  Arron Mawson (Stiff Richards/Doe St/Legless Records) during the pandemic, Melbourne, Australia’s Split System don’t seem like the type to spend a lot of time on things that don’t add to the music. Whether it’s going with short song names (‘The Wheel’, ‘The Drain’, ‘The Blues’ or just plain ‘Dave’) or simply titling their second album ‘Vol. 2’, they stick to the bare minimum.

Musically, it’s an entirely different beast though. ‘Vol. 2’ comes with 11 high-voltage classic Aussie punk tunes that are equally influenced by The Saints and classic rock. Add plenty of rock ‘n roll swagger and the catchiest of hooks and riffs and you are looking at a ridiculously solid album. These songs don’t come with an ounce of fat and there’s not a single dud to be found on ‘Vol. 2’.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
