Album Reviews
Featuring Jack Dalrymple (Swingin’ Utters, One Man Army) along with Swingin Utters’ Miles Peck, toyGuitar pack a lot of the Utters’ 70ies style punk sounds and then proceed by adding a ton of power-pop influences, some sweet guitar lines and more ooh’s and aah’s than you can shake a stick at.
The result is an album that comes with twelve songs you want to play as loud as possible on a sunny day while driving to the beach, ranging from the handclap-enhanced “Static Attraction” to the pure pop goodness that is “Roller Coasters”, where the band actually sings about going to the beach.
“In This Mess” is a lot of fun to listen to and while it is incredibly catchy and hook-filled, it manages at the same time to maintain a raw edge, lending the album a live feel. Speaking of live, you can catch the band on tour with the Swingin’ Utters late March/early April.
