Album Reviews
Caleb Benjamin and Ashton Leach aka Tweak Bird still enjoy grooving the fuck out and bless their little hearts for it. Listening to “Any Ol’ Way”, it’s easy to picture them lighting up the biggest joint you’ve ever seen before hitting the record button and going into a distortion-laden trance where everything moves in slow motion. I also imagine the horns at the end of “She Preach” came into play only after someone came up with the idea to bring some magic mushrooms to band practice. And when they sing about running for your life, I can definitely see them running like crazy from whoever it is they feel threatened by, only to then realize they are still in the couch at home… too fuckin’ baked to even lift a finger.
If a sludgy, grunge-y stoner vibe is your thing, there’s no going wrong with “Any Ol’ Way” really…”Mild Manor” is built like a 5-minute trip to jam heaven whereas “Peace Walker” sounds like Presidents Of The USA covering Kyuss. Now, if you’ll excuse me… this album gave me the munchies so I’m out of here to raid the fridge. If I can get up that is.
