Wolves Like Us (do they mean to say that wolves like them or that they are like wolves?) is a Norwegian band consisting of former members of Amulet, Infidels Forever, Silver and JR Ewing. Both Amulet and JR Ewing had their moments so they had my interest right from the start.

“Black Soul Choir” comes with eleven songs that made me reminisce about 90s rock… you know, when everything had to be grungy and moody? Sometimes they succeed like in the pretty much flawless “Three Poisons” or the energetic “We Were Blood” but most of the time things peter out. Slow-burners are cool and all but they are still supposed to burn.

On the surface everything sounds solid enough… they have a nice Quicksand kinda groove going on and are generous with melodies, but Staind is never too far away and that can never be a good thing. There’s definitely something there though… Wolves Like Us just needs to pull out all the stops rather than playing it safe.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
