Bay Area band Dollar Store is releasing the first single off their debut full-length LP "Gentleman Nation," arriving in May just in time for the EAST BAY OLD AND GAY Pacific Northwest tour with fellow East Bay punks Middle-Aged Queers and legends Bobby Joe Ebola & The Children MacNuggits!
Featuring four weathered battered punks from multiple eras and genres of underground rock, Dollar Store formed in 2023 completely randomly when post-punk vocalist/musician Leda Gannon began writing songs with famed 924 Gilman Street OG and architect of the Berkeley, CA sound Jeff Ott. They recruited Michigan-transplant Dave Slaverave on bass and slowly built a repertoire of post-punk, pop, goth, hardcore, heavy rock, soaring melodic metal, and Fugazi-style post-hardcore. Having no idea what to make of this mish mash of inspiration, they just call themselves "non genre" and go by the slug line "Budget music for budget people."
The first single "Equivocator (Chicken F**ker)" displays pure punk rage and rejection of the denigration of society the Trump era has normalized. Gannon's ached defiant venom, Ott's searing mathematical guitar assault, and Slaverave's rumbling groove deliver a fitting arrival for this band of old schoolers who remember what America was supposed to be and will not be accepting this pure betrayal of.
Dollar Store have only been a live act for a full year, but have already completed 2 west coast tours, been featured on a live BFF.fm interview & session, been shouted out in Razorcake, interviewed for Fluke fanzine, and played with such luminaries as Tsunami Bomb, Frightwig, Middle-Age Queers, Jennie Cotterill of Reckoner/Bad Cop Bad Cop, and Public Serpents.
The album "Gentleman Nation" is due for release in May and LP vinyl will be sold at all dates on the EAST BAY OLD AND GAY tour. Full album will be available for streaming on Bandcamp in May, follow Dollar Store's socials for news of it's official release, as well as more lead-up single releases:
