Nashville femmecore four-piece The Dreaded Laramie today return with rage and riffs on “Where’s My Crystal Ball?”. This new single finds the band undergoing an audio reckoning with a period when circumstances, both national and personal, delivered a 1-2 gut punch to frontwoman MC Cunningham.
She explains, “I got dumped and Roe v Wade was overturned in the same week, and ‘Where’s My Crystal Ball?’ is the result. It’s a song about being utterly done with it.”
“Where’s My Crystal Ball?” is the final single to be released in anticipation of the group’s debut full-length, Princess Feedback, which arrives on July 5th courtesy of Smartpunk Records. Princess Feedback heralds a confident shift in attitude which is, in no small part, an outcome of the group’s partnership with Grammy-winning producer Dave Schiffman (PUP, Vampire Weekend, Bayside). Complex relationships and strained interactions loom large throughout Princess Feedback and, in Schiffman’s hands, The Dreaded Laramie push their sound into new territory that makes space for these emotions. Note the textural wall of sound that announces “Life Is Funny” and a hitherto unheard fierce growl from the normally restrained MC at the track’s halfway mark. Meanwhile the band explore their most dissonant harmonies yet amongst the breakneck upbeat pace of “Where’s My Crystal Ball?”
