Bridging the gap between Blink 182, Foo Fighters, Hot Mulligan, and Transit, Philadelphia four-piece My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House are set to release their new EP ‘All For Love & All For Nothing,’ via their newfound home at Heading East Records roster. Today, we are happy to premiere new single ‘So Bleak,’ which finds the band building on the sound and energy established with singles ‘Tommy Huss’ and ‘House Into Home’.

“So Bleak” is one of my favorites off the new release - it’s an example of the way each member comes into the songwriting process and puts their own stamp to make it uniquely MCGH. It’s a stark contrast from our last single with a mellow, clean instrumental arrangement through 2/3 of the song before a final burst of indie punk/emo energy as the climax.

Thematically, the song focuses on finding the brief moments of blissful positivity in a life and world full of negative noise. It’s so hard to focus on being present when you’re dwelling on every past mistake and stressing about what the future holds. Everyone has a different place or way to reach this moment of peace and often it passes before you can fully appreciate it. But at the end of the day, it’s about finding that fragment of a second to breathe and feel at peace.

We’re stoked with how it all came together working with Matt Brasch (The Wonder Years) in writing and production - he helped us push our comfort zones and boundaries as a band with this entire release and “So Bleak” is one of the best examples of finding a new sound that’s genuine to our band. Nick Steinborn (The Wonder Years) knocked the mix out of the park. We’re so thankful for Fred and the team at Heading East for believing in us and putting these songs out for the world to hear. We can’t wait for August 7th to come and for the whole EP to be out for everyone to hear - until then, we hope you enjoy “So Bleak”!

With soaring three-part harmonies, an infectious live energy, and a personality that speaks for itself, My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House have cemented themselves as a uniquely powerful presence in the Philly music scene.
