The Equalizer 2 Punk Rock Theory
4.0
Directed by:

I read somewhere that Denzel Washington has never starred in a sequel. I’m too lazy to check if that’s true, but I doubt a lot of actors can make that claim. Especially ones that have played in a ton of successful movies like Washington. Which makes it all the more mind-boggling that when he did decide to join up for a sequel, he picked this turd.

The first Equalizer movie introduced us to Robert McCall, a retired special-ops agent trying to keep a low profile, who ended up taking out the entire criminal underbelly of a city while still managing to punch in at Home Depot every morning. The second movie kicks off with McCall taking out some bad guys on a train in Turkey, before returning home and going back to work as a Lyft driver while also trying to keep an art student in his building away from the junkies and gangbangers he’s been hanging out with.

But then something happens to his former Agency handler Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo). And by something I mean that she gets killed. So McCall goes out to correct some more wrongs. Only this time it’s personal. Director Antoine Fuqua is definitely a solid director directing an extremely solid actor, yet The Equalizer 2 never really lives up to the first one. Hell, it never really lives up to anything really. The entire movie feels like they are just going through the motions and by the time they get to what is supposed to be the grand finale, I just didn’t really care anymore.
