Album Reviews
Last year, Cabana Wear released one of my favorite albums of the year with their self-titled debut. It was a perfect blend of all things 90ies alt rock and power pop with plenty of Weezer worship action. Now, frontman Brian Mietz is back with a solo album that shows Cabana Wear’s debut was no lucky shot.
‘Panzarotti’ - named after the Italian turnover filed with cheesy and saucy goodness - clocks in at a brisk 23 minutes with none of the ten songs wearing out their welcome. There’s something very home-y about songs like opener ‘Hollyweed’, ‘Princess Blackstar’ and ‘Pennies From Heaven’ that come at you chock-full of melody and charm. They all sound like there wasn’t a lot of time wasted between writing and recording, leaving zero room for overthinking stuff or little self-indulgences. Just solid songwriting and good times to be had.
