Built around the father/daughter duo of drummer/vocalist Inez McLain and guitarist Kenny McLain and rounded out by bassist Bobby Carlson, The Exbats are a band that look to the past on ‘Kicks, Hits and Fits’. The twelve songs that make up their third album all have equal amounts of punk rock energy and timeless pop sensibilities that have more to do with 60ies girl groups and bands like the Monkees and the Hollies than anything that is being produced now

The Exbats have the hooks and the melodies down pat, got rid of everything that isn’t entirely necessary and as a result, ended up with twelve lean slabs of bubblegum garage punk that are already a fun enough way to spend some time. Every now and then though, they whip out a song that’s a cut above the rest like opening track ‘You Don’t Get It (You Don’t Got It)’ or the gentle encouragement that is ‘Wet Cheeks’ and make the whole thing even better.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
