Germany’s Lower Bavaria is not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think of melodic punk rock. But that didn’t stop these guys from starting The Special Bombs back in 2017. Influenced by the likes of The Flatliners, Bouncing Souls and 90ies Fat Wreck bands, these guys burn through ten tracks in just over half an hour with almost reckless abandon on ‘Eruptions’.

They aren’t exactly rewriting the rulebook on their debut album, but what you do end up with is some solid punk rock that comes at you with nothing but melodic riffs, plenty of punch and gruff vocals. There are a couple of time where the vocals sound a bit strained, as if the singer is forcing his voice a bit too hard. Which makes me more worried about his throat than that it takes away from the fun. Especially not when you hear songs like ‘Still Dreaming’, ‘Looking For A Cause’ and ‘United’.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
