Pays P. is a French trio that takes their cues from the likes of Sonic Youth and other experimental brooders that are as big on dynamics as they are on atmosphere. You can’t really tell what they are brooding about though, seeing as vocalist Laura Boullic belts out her lines exclusively in French. But a happy camper she is not. Meanwhile, brothers Lucas and Pablo Valero create a tapestry of moodiness so thick you can cut it with a knife.

The band played a show in Paris back in 2018 with Brooklyn’s SAVAK, who were so impressed by the trio that they offered to record the band’s album at their Gowanus studio. Because back then you could still travel, the Pays P. members took them up on the offer  and showed up a year later. The result? “Ca v aller” (‘It’s gonna be okay’), a 7-song dive into all things sinewy, jagged, taut, towering and many more adjectives I hardly ever use. Suffice to say that if you like your noise served with a touch of experimentalism, Pays P. have got you coverd.
