Album Reviews
Featuring members of Inspection 12, Whaleface, Hatrick and Redline, Florida’s The Softer Side has been cranking out melodic punk rock since 1999. The problem? I didn’t know about them until now!
‘Rise From The Deathbed’ finds the Jacksonville-based band combining 2013’s ‘Rise From The Embers’ EP with last year’s ‘Deathbed’ EP on vinyl for the first time (out now on High End Denim Records, Double Helix Records and Pee Records), this album clocks in at 43 minutes of solid riffage, pounding drums, sturdy basslines and ultra-melodic vocals. Listening to these cuts, it’s impossible to tell they were written ten years apart. Combining influences from skate punk, pop punk, rock, folk and metal, The Softer Side comes out swinging with 13 tracks worth of expertly written punk rock that should appeal to fans of No Use For A Name, Strung Out, Rufio and Craig’s Brother.
