Album Reviews
Other than the fact that these guys are from the UK, hardly anything is known about Dragged Into Sunlight. They appear masked in photos and when they play live, it’s in near darkness. That might seem cool to a 15-year-old… but I have to admit I kinda get it. I wouldn’t want to be associated with this band either.
“Widowmaker” consists of just three songs, the first of which already goes on and on for over fifteen minutes with absolutely nothing happening but a few strummed guitar chords in the first nine minutes. Then a violin joins the guitar and together they crawl towards the finish line. Yeah, you kinda already lost me there. After that the whole sordid mess gets a little louder with a mix of black, death and doom metal which – again - isn’t captivating at all.
While reading about this album, I kept finding terms such as intense, dark, bleak, dense, doomy, frantic and so on. So I kept on listening to it, seeing if I missed out on something. But nope, not really. Turns out that most of all “Widowmaker” is a completely boring and pretentious piece of crap.
