Album Reviews
In a time where bands seemingly always play post-something or where the first half of a review consists of summing up all the different styles a band mixed together, it’s almost refreshing to be able to say that there are still bands around who simply play rock music. Just that… rock music.
LA’s Beware Of Darkness is one of those oddities and they do it well. Kicking off “Orthodox” is the song “Howl”, which comes with a massive Led Zep-inspired riff and a solid chorus. Check “Heart Attack” and “My Planet Is Dead” for more of that. There’s more though… the bluesy stomp of “Ghost Town” reminded me of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the more mellow moments on here show that vocalist Kyle Nicolaides and his buddies have spent a fair amount of time listening to the Beatles growing up (“Morning Tea”).
So yeah, there’s a lot going on on “Orthodox” but it all boils down to the same thing… rock ‘n roll. Hallelujah!
