Album Reviews
Toronto’s PUP (short for Pathetic Use of Potential) already dropped their self-titled album late last year in Canada. Thanks to Side One Dummy, the rest of the world gets to enjoy it as well now. And holy crap, have we been enjoying this! Is this a party from start to finish or what? Ten songs to kickstart an alcohol-fueled party that will have everybody freaking out to the cool riffs, the sing-along parts and the ridiculously catchy hooks.
Take Weezer’s blue album, make it sound a lot grittier and throw in some of The Bronx’ energy and I think you’ll have a pretty good idea of what this one sounds like. Songs like “Reservoir” and “Never Try” are anthemic, “Back Against The Wall” sounds like the hardcore version of Pixies and with “Yukon” these guys show that even when they slow things down, they will have no problem keeping your attention.
