Album Reviews
On his second album with The Glory Fires, former Dexateens guitarist Lee Bains III is rocking out like the Drive-By Truckers at their fiercest with guitars that alternately strut, soar and howl. It makes for a hell of a lot of ruckus that comes with lyrics that combine standard Lynyrd Skynyrd fare (Southern pride, faith,…) with a very outspoken political point of view. The title track starts with the line “we were raised on ancient truths and ugly old lies’ and it pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Tunes like “Flags”, “Mississippi Bottomland” and “Dirt Track” are loud and proud pieces of Southern rock that are influenced by both cow-punk and the Rolling Stones. All of this sticky Southern goodness comes wrapped in a garage rock kinda production job thanks to Tim Kerr and it makes for a helluva party album!
