“Get Back” is the name of Pink Mountaintops’ fourth album and just like their previous releases, this one is not easily categorized. Jangled up rock ‘n roll is one way to describe the sound of this band around Black Mountain’s Stephan McBean (opening track “Ambulance City”) but they’ll just as well get all freaky on you with a song like “North Hollywood Microwaves” on which they combine rock with rap and a saxophone. It’s easily the biggest ‘what the fuck’ moment you are likely to find on this album… yet somehow it works! Other than that McBean and a couple of friends (including J Mascis among others) seem to be having a good time cranking up the guitars. And if they are having fun, then why shouldn’t we?

“Get Back” probably won’t jumpstart a revolution anytime soon but as far as sleazy rock albums go, you could be a lot worse off!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
