Album Reviews
There’s something about the ominous guitar line and spoken word intro of opening track “Dismantle”, that makes you brace yourself for what’s to come “The Things I Am Not”, Ghost Key’s follow up to their debut album “Winter”. Yet I wasn’t quite prepared for the blast of ferocious hardcore they unleash about fifty seconds into the song.
Heavy riffs that rattle the fillings in your teeth, pummeling drums that kick your ass and pissed off vocals that cause… well, fill in some other kind of bodily discomfort here. You get the picture. To top it all off, the band knows exactly when to throw in atmospheric riffs or a brutal breakdown to spice things up even further. And they don’t like to waste time… they get the job done in 2-3 minute long tracks without failing to hit you right where it hurts with every single track on here.
It makes “The Things I Am Not” an EP that is over way too soon and one that comes highly recommended for fans of Killing The Dream, Dead Hearts and Modern Life Is War.
