Contrary to popular belief, the Tijuana Panthers do not hail from Mexico. Nor are they really panthers. This is not exactly newsworthy though. The fact that these dudes just released their fourth album, most definitely is.

The new album is called “Poster” and is filled with the kind of surf-y garage rock tunes that instantly make your day more fun. If you need proof of this statement, check out opening track “Foolish” or “Church Bell”. I don’t know about you, but they already won me over after these first two songs. They then proceed by paying tribute to the Smiths (“Send Down The Bombs”) and let their love for all things post-punk shine even brighter in songs like “” and “”. “Power Plant” on the other hand made me think of Sonic Youth for some reason I can’t quite pinpoint. Maybe it’s just the vocal delivery?

“Poster” is not all that different from their previous releases, but they have added some more diversity this time around while making sure everything still very much sounds like a Tijuana Panthers album. It makes this their most adventurous and at the same time most cohesive album to date.
