The UK’s Palma Violets first reared their ugly heads in 2013 when they released their debut album (“180”) and were heralded by the British press as the next big thing. In other words, business as usual for a UK band.

At the beginning of last year, they scrapped two weeks’ worth of recording because they felt they had ‘lost the element of youth’. Listening to “Danger In The Club”, they seem to have found it again because all of these songs bristle with youthful energy. The band’s mix of the Clash’s most frivolous side and pub rock is fun enough to listen to once. It’s hardly the next big thing though and it’s not really very good either. It’s just fun to hear these guys almost trip over one another in all their enthusiasm as they veer off in yet another drunk chant.

Not sure though why you would hire someone like John Leckie (Radiohead, The Stone Roses) and then ask him to make your album sound like it was recorded for ten bucks in a garage. But hey, maybe that’s just me.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
