Album Reviews
After having released a split together last year, Secret Space and The Flats are teaming up once again for… well, another split. This one comes out on Memory Music, producer extraordinaire Will Yip’s imprint on Run For Cover Records. Each band delivers one song of atmospheric indie-rock with Secret Space being the moodier of the two and The Flats sounding more celebratory, even somewhat poppy.
Secret Space opens with “The Window Room”, a brooding song that slowly builds to a satisfactory conclusion that should appeal to fans of bands such as Hum and Failure. The Flats need less time to hit that sweet spot with “Machinery”, a track that will fulfill the auditory needs for those of you who like listening to Somos and Foxing.
Both bands are definitely worth a couple of minutes of your time and if you want to hear more, then you can pick up The Flats’ debut LP that came out late last year. You’ll have to wait a little for more Secret Space, but they have an album coming out on Equal Vision later this year.
