Movie Reviews
Hardcore Henry starts off with Henry’s reanimated corpse waking up in a lab and staring at his wife Estelle (Haley Bennett). Except he doesn’t know she’s his wife, because his memory has been erased. Oh, and he doesn’t have a voice and they turned him into a cyborg. Plus, we don’t actually get to see Henry stare at his wife, we are the ones staring. That’s because the entire movie is filmed with a GoPro strapped to someone’s head. We see everything through Henry’s eyes. Before you really get a chance to let this sink in though, some bad guys burst into the lab. That’s when the action begins and it doesn’t stop until the end of the movie.
If this isn’t making sense, that’s okay. There is no real story here. Just a lot of people to kill and stuff to blow up. Remember Crank? If you thought that was over the top, wait until you get a load of this one.
Director Ilya Naishuller turned the whole thing into a first-person shooter where you have to complete one mission in order to get to the next level. While I am a fan of first-person shooters, the most annoying thing about them are those cutscenes that break up the game. And well, Hardcore Henry is pretty much one big cutscene. One you can’t skip.
