Album Reviews

Following up on their 2019 album ‘In Limbo,’ Italy’s Teenage Bubblegums are back with 5 furious new songs that are drenched in darkness. I’m talking Vin Diesel in Pitch Black kinda darkness.
The band describes ‘Infamia’ as “a place of darkness, every silence is a locked door. A condition that remains unchanged indefinitely, the unknown, the fear, the acceptance, the surrender. 5 songs. 5 enigmas. Fires that burn will always burn.” I honestly have no idea what any of that means, but at least these five enigmas no longer all sound the same, which was my biggest qualm with ‘In Limbo’.
I’m struggling to find a good way to describe Teenage Bubblegums’ music. Maybe doom punk sums it up? Opener ‘Golden Cage’ is a gloomy two and half minute long intro that sets the stage for the doom-laden ‘Temporary And Permanent,’ which is more akin to something Paradise Lost would write rather than your average Monster Zero band. And closer ‘True Summertime Miracle’ sounds more like an extremely frosty Wintertime Massacre.
‘Infamia’ is a step forward for Teenage Bubblegums. Curious to see where this newfound sound will take them next!
