Album Reviews
Even though Open City has already been a band for two years and have played a bunch of shows in that time, they had yet to put out any music. That situation has now been remedied thanks to the release of their eponymous debut album.
In case you weren’t with the program just yet, Open City is fronted by Rachel Rubino (Bridge And Tunnel, Worriers) and further consists of Dan Yemin (Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, Paint It Black), Andy Nelson (Ceremony, Paint It Black) and Chris Wilson (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists). Together they blast through ten songs’ worth of pent up frustrations, dissonant one second and melodic the next. But always with so much energy and earnestness that you can practically see them changing people’s opinions on the current state of things before your eyes. Well, maybe that last part is just wishful thinking.
"Open City" sounds just different enough from their other projects to warrant its existence and is well worth your time. Not that we expect anything less from a band with this kind of pedigree.
