Album Reviews

Formerly known as Walter Mitty and His Makeshift Orchestra, Walter Etc. is the musical project started by a couple of childhood friends led by self-proclaimed cult leader, Walter. Their latest release, “Gloom Cruise”, comes with ten songs that float somewhere between indie pop, power-pop and all other variations on pop.
The songs on here are breezy, hook-laden and at times come with a slight grunge-y touch. Songs like the danceable “Dumb Angel” and “Petunia You’re Home” are pure summer bliss, while “All Connotations” has the beachy vibe of a Jack Johnson song down pat. In short, there is a lot to be said for “Gloom Cruise”. But at the same time I found myself unable to get swept up by this collection of songs, who all start to blend together as you work your way further down the tracklisting.
