On album number five, Templeton Pek are off to a solid start with opening track ‘Nowhere To Hide’. The song comes with a lot of righteous anger, big guitars, an even bigger chorus and an incredibly slick production. In other words, it’s pretty much the same thing they have been doing all along. Which also means they still don’t shy away from borrowing a page or two from Rise Against and Ignite’s Big Book of Songwriting.
Another thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that vocalist Neal doesn’t seem to believe in moderation. There is a lot to be said for is passionate vocal delivery, but it’s constantly all out, balls to the wall. And it leads to weariness after the first handful of songs. Which is also when the songs kinda start to blend together.
It’s a shame really. I honestly believe they have what it takes to write a great album. Unfortunately ‘Watching The World Come Undone’ isn’t it.
