Chicago post-hardcore/metal trio With Patience are excited to release “It’s Time,” the first single and video from their forthcoming full-length, Triptych, out Friday, May 9, 2025.

The album is led by diverse singles “It’s Time,” “Exit As Instructed,” and “False Memories.” The calmest and most straightforward track on the album, “It’s Time” is also the gravest in terms of theme. “It talks about giving doom-worshipping ‘preppers’ exactly what they want: The signal that 'shit-is-going-down-right-now' and the moment they've all been waiting for has arrived. So they all scramble to put on their best camouflage outfits and load up their big shiny guns and go sit in a bunker somewhere and wait to die, I guess?” says Wade.

The sonic assault of album closer “Exit As Instructed” is about “struggling with crippling anxiety and panic attacks while trying to hide that you're experiencing them in public,” says Curran. “I once had a panic attack on  the CTA and had to just focus on reading all the warning signs posted over and over again to get my mind distracted and calm down.” For the hearty chug of “False Memories,” the band focused on how people can romanticize the past when memories are inaccurate. “It was inspired by seeing a can of Fresca on a bike ride, salivating over the memory of this drink from childhood, and then trying it again to discover it sucked,” says Diamond.

Like most of With Patience’s efforts, Triptych was recorded in Diamond’s basement studio, lovingly referred to as the “School Hours Studio” since the studio sits right below the family living room, meaning that loud music needs to wait until everyone else is out of the house at school or jobs. Family members have also contributed in various ways to Triptych: Wade’s wife Ali is a creative director who takes photos and helps create videos for the band and also sings on the tracks “Sycophants” and “False Memories.” Diamond’s sister Rae also sings on “False Memories” and has also contributed artwork to show posters and band promos and videos including the zany piece “Cobra."

Triptych was also brought to life by two contemporaries and luminaries in the music community, mixed by J Robbins (Jawbox, Government Issue), and mastered by Bob Weston (Shellac, Mission of  Burma), which only added to the immense pride the band has for the record and the project as it eyes its future.

“We feel this is our best work and we want to share it as best we can,” says Diamond. “There are many grateful feelings from all members of the band that we found each other. This is definitely the musical statement we wanted to make.”

The trio consists of drummer Lee Diamond, guitarist Chris Wade, and bassist Lance Curran who all share vocal duties. They quickly found common musical ground in influences like Jawbox, Gojira, Tar, Hot Water Music, The Clash, Shellac, King Crimson, Slayer, Hot Snakes, Fugazi, and Rush. “We dig a ton of things in common, like hardcore, post-hardcore, math rock, punk rock and metal, but  especially ‘80s/’90s post-hardcore from labels like Dischord, Touch and Go, AmpRep and a zillion tiny labels,” says Diamond.

Like their EP, Three of Swords, the focus on the three members of the band seeps through in the Triptych album title, too. “We are committed to the idea of this band, of our power as a trio, and of our unity,” says Curran. “Triptych is a word commonly associated with paintings or art in three panels, but it  also means anything with three parts integrating into a single unit. That’s us.”
