Tend No Wounds
7.0
I’ve always regarded Black Tusk as the ugly cousins of Baroness and Kylesa and on “Tend No Wounds”, the band’s new 6-song EP, they live up to that reputation. Gritty riffs, pounding drums and their trademark three vocalist attack make for a pretty raw sound that’s as nasty as it is loud. Nowhere near as sophisticated as their brothers in arms but equally effective.
But even if they are indeed the ugly cousins of Savannah’s sludge scene, they are still up there at the front of the pack and with songs like opener “A Cold Embrace” and “Truth Untold”, they show exactly why that is. Prime headbanging material!
