Album Reviews
The Dillinger Escape Plan has never been one of my favorite bands simply because I never really got them. Sitting through one of their older albums felt like attending ten boring meetings at the same time with everyone yelling through one another and it got me jumpier than a heroin addict who went cold turkey.
Luckily for me, the guys that make up The Dillinger Escape Plan grew a little older and a bit more mellow and this time around it seems they put the songs first on “One Of Us Is The Killer” rather than just being contrary for the sake of it. That is not to say that these guys all of a sudden started writing über-accessible songs that you will hear on the radio. They are still as intense as ever and the songs on here are as heavy as they are unpredictable. They have however applied some more structure this time around and as a result the songs are more memorable than ever before even if the tempo changes and freaky breaks still come at you with lightning speed and from way out of left field.
So while listening to “One Of Us Is The Killer” is still very much a challenge and a lot of work to completely get everything that’s going on in one song, the difference is that this time around I’m willing to put in the effort. In other words, The Dillinger Escape Plan without a doubt released their best album to date.
