It’s been a while since I had the pleasure (cough) of listening to some Christian metalcore. Turns out it hasn’t changed much. The album in question is “VxV” (pronounced as five by five) by Ohio’s Wolves At The Gate and it comes with some additional post-hardcore influences.

The songs on here all come with swirling guitars that take a turn for the aggressive on the drop of a hat. The same can be said for the vocals with both singers earning their keep. It’s nothing that you haven’t heard before from bands like Thrice and Thursday but with preachy lyrics.

There might have been a time when Wolves At The Gate would have made something of an impression with this kind of sound but now it just feels like the band is rehashing ideas everybody grew tired of years ago.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
