Album Reviews
On their third album, Doomriders are at it again. Led by Converge’s Nate Newton, these guys tear it up on “Grand Blood”, sounding decidedly more aggressive this time around than on predecessor “Darkness Comes Alive”.
They previously combined a sludgy and doomy vibe with some of that sweet rock n roll swagger. And while songs like the title track and “Death In Heat” still come with a fair amount of sludge, there is a lot more piss and vinegar to go around this time. The hardcore/metal hybrid that Doomriders now dish out strikes the perfect balance between violence and melody thanks to Newton’s spat out vocals, Kurt Ballou’s production job and solid riffage, making “Grand Blood” an even more ferocious beast than the band’s previous releases and that’s definitely not a bad thing.
