After five years, Helen Earth Band is back with the aggressively titled “We Fucking Quit”, which is probably a reference to the turbulent times the band has been through with two members leaving. The music itself is not nearly as aggressive as the album title though.

With a distinct 90ies emo sound, Helen Earth Band are happy to rock out with mathy guitar lines that swirl and rise and fade and do lots of other interesting things in between. Add a solid rhythm section and passionate vocals and you have yourself a good sound. Not unlike Braid on their recent “No Coast” album, the guys in Helen Earth Band don’t mind a bit of noodling every now and again but they don’t let it get in the way of the songs, which always have a nice flow to them.

“We Fucking Quit” is not an album on which the band reinvents the emo genre, but there’s not a single dud to be found on here and with every listen, you discover something new. Sounds good, right? Trust me, it does.
