Meet Killer Hill, a new-ish band out of LA that packs plenty of metallic crunch on their debut 7” and who do a solid job of living up to their band name. You know, because the only way a hill could actually kill would be by crushing someone. And that’s exactly what these two songs do. Yeah sorry, I might have taken that one too far.
Anyway, ‘About A Goat’ kicks off with the kind of riff you’d expect to hear on a Helmet record. Which is not that strange considering the fact that both vocalist/guitarist Dan Beeman and bassist Dave Case actually play in Helmet. Rounding out Killer Hill is Dan’s brother, Pete Beeman who has previously played drums in Guzzard and Burning Brides. ‘About A Goat’ has a lot going on... and it’s all good. It packs a solid chorus alongside plenty of nasty riffage. There’s even a sludge-y Unsane-like part and a loud as fuck finale that brings the whole thing home. ‘Live Nude’ is up next and has this Mastodon meets Red Fang thing going on that is pretty badass.
Even with just two songs, Killer Hill does a solid job of introducing themselves. Not by ringing the doorbell, but by kicking the door down.
