I think we can all agree that Predator was an awesome movie. I mean, it featured Schwarzenegger in his prime, had one of the most badass villains in movie history and unlike say, Commando, it stood the test of time. Plus it came with a lot of great quotes. Seriously. If it bleeds, we can kill it? I ain’t got time to bleed? Get to the chopper! Those things are just classic. So naturally any band that pays tribute to Predator in a music video, which is what Red Fang did for the song “Shadows”, gets a plus in my book. Even if it would be a bad song.

Thing is… Red Fang don’t do bad songs. Call it metal, sludge, post-something or hard rock. Compare them to Queens Of The Stone Age, Kylesa, Mastodon or Kyuss. I just call this good music. Here you have a bunch of dudes who seem to have a blast cranking out heavy riffs. On top of that they come with a rhythm section that pummels you into submission and the kind of gritty vocals that I normally associate with a particularly rough weekend. But they don’t stop there. On “Only Ghosts”, they also added hooks to the mix. Big hooks. And thanks to Ross Robinson (QOTSA, The Cure,...), the album sounds absolutely amazing.

Honestly, I remember liking “Whales & Leeches”, but it’s not an album that I revisited a lot since it came out. Pretty sure this one will be in regular rotation from now on though.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
