Bay Area’s HUNTING LIONS, the latest band to emerge from the punk hotspot in Northern California, has released a new song and video for their song “KOTA.” The song comes from their new EP “Dark” which is now available on the Pirates Press Records webstore.
“‘King of the Avenue’ is an homage to California car culture and The Rumblers Car Club, of which I am a member. It’s also just about being alive and enjoying what you have. Whether it’s a sunny day or lowriding on a Friday night, we have to get down with life on life’s terms,” says frontman Ben Coleman.
The video also now serves as a remembrance to Coleman’s old Buick. Unfortunately, the car was wrecked just weeks after the shoot. However, the filming still leaves great memories for the band. “We shot the live footage at The DNA Lounge when we were there with Booze 'n Glory and The Drowns. The stuff with me in my (now deceased) Buick was shot all over San Francisco: Golden Gate and Bay bridges, Broadway and Columbus, etc.. San Francisco in the fall is about the most beautiful place on earth. The rest of the footage was sent in from other guys in the Rumblers. Car shows, cruising etc.. This is California, man, we do cars and punk rock!” explains Coleman.
On “Dark,” the limited press 12” black vinyl features a B-side printed with a matte varnish, giving the design a two-tone effect while still being totally black. The record is packaged in a specially printed gray material foldover.
The San Francisco Bay Area punk scene is the birthplace of legendary bands like Rancid, Dead Kennedys, Green Day, Swingin’ Utters, and many others. Over the years, it has become one of the most tight-knit music communities in the country. It’s this bond and mutual love for punk that forged Hunting Lions, a group of veteran Santa Cruz and Sonoma County musicians coming together with years of experience playing in standout acts like Swingin' Utters, Roadside Bombs, The Beltones, US Bombs, Tiger Army, and more. In their relatively short time together, Hunting Lions have shared the stage with bands like The Toasters, Booze & Glory, and The Generators and will make their Punk Rock Bowling and Rebellion Festival debuts later this year.
