Album Reviews
Viriginia’s Turnover is well on its way of being a buzz band with their take on pop-punk/emo/indie-pop/… After releasing a self-titled EP and a split 7” with labelmates Citizen, there’s now the band’s debut full-length “Magnolia”, produced by Will Yip.
They show right from the start that they are worthy of the attention they’re getting. “Shiver” is clear evidence of how much these guys have grown and is the perfect mix of pop-punk and 90s emo. It’s calm and stately and somber yet melodic. These guys are often compared to Title Fight and while they share the same producer and songs like “Seed” and “Hollow” could just as well have been on “Floral Green”, Turnover shows a face of their own on “Magnolia”, an album that for once doesn’t make the word ‘mature’ sound like it’s a bad thing.
