Usually a self-titled album by a band that has been around for a while is indicative of change. In Drag The River’s case it probably just means they were too drunk to come up with an album name. On their first full-length since 2009’s “Bad At Breaking Up”, these functioning alcoholics led by Jon Snodgrass and Chad Price penned ten new alt-country songs that once again lay the twang on thick.

We get to visit the local honky-tonk bar in “Like Longfellow”, “Ghost Of High School” sounds like an Elvis Costello song in a country jacket, “The Other Side Of OK” comes with an endearing country shuffle and we get to rock out during “Not That Kind”. Yet it all sounds unmistakably like Drag The River. That is in large part thanks to Snodgrass and Price who still take turns at the mic and still know how to tell a mean story.

The only thing that has changed is that this time around, they might sound a little older and a little wiser but definitely not worse for wear.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
