Meet Jacob Lawter aka Slow And Steady. This recent Austin native just released his debut full-length, “In Time We Belong”. And it’s friggin’ beautiful.

All of the songs on “In Time We Belong” are drenched in melancholy and sadness, yet never feel depressing. They could have easily had that effect though. Song titles like “Watching Life Go By”, “Disinterested” and “Lost At Sea” don’t exactly spell joy. But thanks to the beautiful melodies that strike all the right chords and the sheer warmth that exudes from every single note, that’s never the case.

Lawter excels at writing the kind of lyrics that could be mistaken for diary entries after a particularly shitty day and then setting those lyrics to rather sparse arrangements that land somewhere between Pedro The Lion, Mansions and Band Of Horses with a hint of The Weakerthans. This collection of songs will break your heart, but is also kind enough to glue it back together afterwards. Listen to “35mm”, “The Kind Of Warmth That Freezes You To Death” or - my personal favorite – “Out Of Touch” once and you won’t be able to get them out of your head for days. Which, I can assure you, is a pleasant feeling.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
