I’ll See You When I See You
6.0
For album number two, Cleveland’s Light Years headed for the studio with producer Will Yip (Title Fight, La Dispute,…) and came back out with “I’ll See When I See You”.
When prompted about the new album, frontman Pat Kennedy said they aren’t trying to pull off a gimmick or to sound like every other cookie-cutter pop-punk band out there. That’s half true, because there are indeed no gimmicks to be found here. But you’d be equally hard-pressed to find anything particularly original on “I’ll See You When I See You”.
So they didn’t reinvent the genre... but hey, what you do get are 13 pop-punk tunes that are catchy and bouncy in all the right places and come with plenty of melodic licks and even more energy. Not bad, but still generic at best.
