On album number eight, Danko Jones keeps on doing what he has been doing since 1996. Which, in case you didn’t know just yet, is playing loud and uncomplicated rock ‘n roll.
Songs like opening track “I Gotta Rock”, “Going Out Tonight” and “” are well-crafted and expertly executed. There is no denying that at this point in his career, Danko knows exactly what works and what doesn’t. That unfortunately also means he won’t be winning any prizes for originality anytime soon and that most of the songs on here sound exactly alike. They also sound like the ones on the album before this one. And like the songs on the album before that. And… well, you get the picture.
It makes “Wild Cat” an album that is fun to listen to as long as you have a cold beer within reach. But not one that will leave much of a lasting impression.
